What is a “Self Referral”
You often need to get a referral in order to see specialist. This referral can come from your Primary Car Provider (PCP.) As stated before this is almost always need when you are seeking care from a specialist unless self-referral to the specialist is allowed.
Many individuals seeking services anxiety, depression, trauma or other mental health treatment may think that they need a referral from their PCP. However, this is not the case for most outpatient mental health services. In this case you can do a self-referral to a mental health counselor or online therapist. Self-referral means that you do not need to get approval from your Primary Care Physician to access an assessment. To refer yourself, simply call the mental health provider you would like to see and set up an appointment. You can refer yourself for a Behavioral Health Assessment, evaluation services or for an in-take appointment.
